This Privacy Notice is designed to help you understand how and why the Communications Team processes your personal data. This notice should be read in conjunction with the Council’s Corporate Privacy Notice.
Who are we?
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a ‘Data Controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The Communications Team is a part of the Resources Directorate. The team is in place to communicate the business of the authority to residents and stakeholders.
What personal information do we collect?
When subscribing to the Residents Newsletter we collect the following information:
- Name
- Email address
- Postcode
Why do we collect your personal information?
We collect and use this information for the following purposes:
- To engage with subscribed residents and provide them with information about services, events, job opportunities and other relevant information (this is not an exhaustive list).

Who do we obtain your information from?
Personal information is provided directly by yourself when you choose to subscribe to the mailing list.
Who do we share this information with?
Your personal information will not be shared with any organisation outside of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council without your expressed consent.
We may legally be required to disclose your details for legal or regulatory reasons.
How long do we keep your information for?
Your information is securely stored. The retention period for this service is 6 years after the last known interaction with you.

What is our lawful basis for processing your information?
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council relies on the following lawful basis to process your personal data:
- UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) – when you have given consent for us to process your information.
Your Rights

- You have a right to have your personal data erased, if we no longer have a legitimate use for it. This right is sometimes called the ‘right to be forgotten’.
- You have a right to rectification of your personal data if the information we hold in relation to you is inaccurate or incomplete.
- You have a right not to be subject to any decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which produces legal or similarly significant effects. You can request human intervention or challenge any solely automated decision-making that significantly affects you.
