Careers and NEETS Privacy Notice
This Privacy Notice is designed to help you understand how and why the Careers and NEET Service, processes your personal data. This notice should be read in conjunction with the Council’s Corporate Privacy Notice.
Who are we?
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a ‘Data Controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The Careers and NEET Service identifies young people who are, or are at risk of becoming, Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) in order to offer timely and appropriate support.
What personal information do we collect?
We may collect the following personal information:
- Name, address, date of birth, email address and phone number
- Unique identifiers, such as National Insurance Number, Unique Pupil Number and Unique Learner Number
- Details of your current, next or most recent education, employment or training
- Reasons for requiring further support
- Contact we have had with you, for example, appointments and correspondence
- Notes and reports about your relevant circumstances
- Details and records about the service you have received
- Individual characteristics, such as whether you are a child in our care, care leaver, refugee/asylum seeker, carer, supervised by YOS, teenage parent, under alternative provision, etc.
We may also collect the following special category data:
- Health data, including pregnancy, substance misuse and mental health information
Why do we collect your personal information?
We use your personal information to:
- Undertake our statutory duties around education and training of pupils aged 16+, to support and reduce those not in education, employment or training (NEET)
- Support you to decide what to do after you leave school
- Enable integrated working with other teams and organisations to ensure you receive the right support at the right time
- Plan and provide the most appropriate level of support to you
- Support you to access relevant support, advice, services and groups
- Evaluate and quality assure the services we provide
- Inform future service provision and the commissioning of service
- The information may also be used for direct marketing purposes such as sending you opportunities for jobs, newsletters and training, for which your consent will be obtained first.
Who do we obtain your information from?
- Other RCBC children’s service teams that you have been involved with
- Other local authorities if you have moved in or out of the area
- Your school or college
- Department for Work and Pensions
- National Apprenticeship Service
Who do we share this information with?
- Schools and colleges so that we can support you to access education, employment and training opportunities
- Department for Education, to complete regulatory and statutory data collections
- Local support services, such as employment programmes, to provide additional support
How long do we keep your information for?
Information is deleted when the individual reaches the age of 25.
What is our lawful basis for processing your information?
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council relies on the following lawful basis to process your personal data:
UK GDPR Article 6(1)(c) - processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject.
UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) – when you have given consent for us to process your information. This is exclusively for our direct marketing activities, such as sending you information on opportunities for jobs, newsletters, and training.
When processing special category data, the Council will rely on the following lawful basis:
UK GDPR Article 9(2)(g) – processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest (with a basis in law), meeting Schedule 1, Part 2 of the Data Protection Act 2018 as below:
- (8) Equality of opportunity or treatment
- (18) Safeguarding of children and individuals at risk
