Our Armed Forces Champion is introducing special awards for army, air force and sea cadets.
They will be presented on Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June which attracts thousands of residents and visitors to Redcar.
The awards are the brainchild of Cllr Dave Taylor, the borough’s Armed Forces Champion and nominations should be made by 5pm on Friday 12 June.
There are seven categories:
- Outstanding Leadership Award
- Most Improved Cadet
- Attendance & Reliability Award
- Community Service & Volunteering Award
- Ambassador Award (representing cadets externally)
- Long Service / Commitment Award
- Best Overall Cadet (Special Award)
Cllr Taylor, an army veteran, said:
“Every cadet and every person who supports them should, of course, already be extremely proud of their contribution. But we hear of some of our young people who are simply outstanding and they should be celebrated. The awards will reflect the sustained effort, responsibility and positive contribution cadets make to the borough. It could be through exceptional commitment through training, volunteering, teamwork and personal development, making a difference to the community, leadership, long service or simply great conduct. If you know a cadet who is going the extra mile please take a moment nominate them. It could positively affect that young person’s life for years to come.”
Cllr Bill Suthers, Cabinet Member for Children, said:
“This is an excellent initiative which will bring much-deserved recognition to our cadets. I’d like to congratulate our Armed Forces Champion and everyone else involved in establishing the awards as well as all those who help run the cadet services. I’d also like to thank all our cadets, whether nominated for an award or not, for being such a credit to our community and country.”
Each winner will be presented with a framed certificate at 11.15am on Armed Forces Day and nominations can be made to the council’s Armed Forces Liaison Officers by emailing ArmedForcesLiaison@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk
