Free family Swim Bike Run event launches at Redcar seafront this summer

RESIDENTS and visitors are invited to take part in a free, outdoor event this summer.

British Triathlon, alongside Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and many other local partners have created a partnership with an aim of making Redcar a great place to Swim, Bike, Walk/Run. They’re kicking off the partnership with a launch event on Sunday 28 June from 12pm-4pm at Majuba Beach. The event will offer a range of family‑friendly activities designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get active.

The highlight of the day will be the Swim Bike Run Mini, starting at 1pm, where participants can choose to complete a swim, cycle, walk/run or take on all three. With both adult and family waves available, the event is designed to be inclusive, relaxed and enjoyable, without the pressure of a formal competition. Equipment, including bikes and wetsuits will be available to borrow on the day.

The swim will take place in the sea, the cycle will be on a closed circuit in a nearby car park which will be closed for the duration of the event, and the run will follow a flat, accessible route along the esplanade, suitable for wheelchairs and hand cycles. Participants can bring their own bikes or borrow one for free. There will also be a selection of stationary bikes available for those who are less confident in cycling or who would prefer to use a stationary bike.

Representatives from various organisations will be present with stalls showcasing the support and opportunities they have available for residents including volunteering and sport clubs.

The event is being delivered by British Triathlon in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, RCVDA, Redcar Beach Base, Swim England, Redcar Triathlon Club and Tees Valley Combined Authority.

Dani Penney, Regional Development Manager (Yorkshire & Humber / North East) at British Triathlon said: “We are excited to be launching the Redcar Swim Bike Run partnership with a free Swim Bike Run event. We have started some great partnership work that will provide regular opportunities for local families to get involved in swimming, cycling, walking/running in a way that suits them. We will soon be introducing grant funding to work with more deliverers in the community who can provide beginner friendly, accessible swim, bike, walk/run activities. We will also be investing in training staff and volunteers and have recently delivered our first Swim Bike Run Community Activator course in Redcar, which provides opportunities for people aged 14+ to upskill and feel confident in supporting delivery. We’re at the beginning of our journey here in Redcar and we can’t wait to see the community coming together and having fun at the launch event!”
