Do I need planning permissions?

Check if you need to apply for planning permission

Ways to check if you need planning permission

You can check if you need to apply for planning permission in a number of ways:

  1. use the planning portal interactive house guide at Interactive guidance for householders
  2. Submit an online planning enquiry
  3. email your enquiry to planning_admin@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk
  4. complete the 'planning permission enquiry form' (available below) and return to the following address:Development Management, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Redcar and Cleveland House, Kirkleatham Street, Redcar, Yorkshire, TS10 1RT

Please note that development management has experienced a significant increase in the number of general enquiries seeking informal planning advice.

Due to resource constraints, such enquires do not take precedence over fee paying planning applications.

The length of time for a response will depend on the complexity of the enquiry and the workloads of the case officers. All enquires will be acknowledged within 10 working days and we aim to respond to your enquiry as soon as possible. We do not presently charge for pre-application advice.

You can also visit the UK Government Planning Portal for further information about planning permission in the UK. If you need more localised advice, please visit our local guidance on residential extensions and alterations page.

'Built over' gas services

If your building work requires you to move your gas meter, gas pipe or to divert a gas main, please contact Northern Gas Networks for further information and advice. Visit the Northern Gas Networks website for more information.
