The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Cllr Ceri Cawley, together with Cllr Barry Hunt, and Cllr Adam Brook, will be taking part in the CEO UK Sleep Out to raise funds for two important local causes.
On Saturday 10 October, on World Veteran Homeless Day, they will be sleeping outside the Boosbeck Village Hall in support of the chosen mayoral charities, Healthier Heroes (Morgan House for Veterans) and The Chris Cave Foundation.
The event will begin at 7pm in Boosbeck Village Hall, where participants will hear from the Mayor and representatives from both charities before they settle down for the night. The sleep-out will run from 7.30pm through to 5am the following morning.
Healthier Heroes, through Morgan House, is a dedicated centre which supports military veterans who may be struggling after their service. The Chris Cave Foundation supports families affected by violent crime, works with the probation service and campaigns against knife crime including educating young people in schools.
The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Cllr Ceri Cawley, said: "As Mayor, I have chosen to support two charities that undertake exceptional work to help people through some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable.
"Taking part in the sleep-out is a way of raising awareness and funds for these important causes. I hope residents will get behind the event and support us in any way they can. Every donation will help these charities continue their vital work for the community."
Cllr Barry Hunt, Ward Member for Brotton and former Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, is no stranger to fundraising sleep-outs, having previously taken part in similar events to support charitable causes. He said: "Having taken part in charity sleep-outs before, I know it is not an easy thing to do, but it is a worthwhile experience when it helps raise funds and awareness for such deserving causes."
" I am pleased to be taking part alongside the Mayor and Councillor Brook to help support these two incredible causes."
Cllr Adam Brook, Ward Member for Grangetown and Deputy Mayor said: "I am proud to be joining the Mayor for this challenge and supporting two invaluable charities for our veterans and local communities.
"The sleep-out will be challenging, but it is nothing compared to the difficulties faced by many of the people these charities help every day."
Anyone wishing to support can make a donation via the dedicated JustGiving page: Crowdfunding For Good From JustGiving.
All funds raised will go towards supporting the work of Healthier Heroes (Morgan House for Veterans) and The Chris Cave Foundation.
