YOUTH Centres across Redcar and Cleveland have received major improvements after successfully securing £300,000 through the Better Youth Space funding programme.
This investment has allowed the Council’s Youth Services to further improve centres, ensuring young people have access to better facilities, new opportunities, and supportive environments. These are spaces where young people feel safe, valued, and able to be themselves. They provide new opportunities for young people to learn and develop new skills through upgraded IT resources, Bluetooth sound systems, music equipment, play equipment, and inclusive smart screen technology.
The Guisborough Youth Centre is one of the buildings which saw new developments, including outdoor play equipment designed to support young people with sensory needs, a fully accessible kitchen for young people with disabilities, and a new sensory and relaxation room complete with mood lighting.
These improvements will make a real difference in ensuring these spaces are inclusive, supportive, and enjoyable for everyone who attends.
The centres are managed by the Council’s youth workers who provide the young people with a listening ear, guidance, and support for any challenges they may face with help always being available. They also provide important resources, including the C-Card scheme, ensuring young people can receive confidential advice and support around their health and wellbeing.
This funding is a huge step forward for youth services across Redcar and Cleveland and will make a significant difference for young people now and in the future.
Cabinet Member for Children, Cllr Bill Suthers, said: “Youth Centres are such an important asset to our area. They help build confidence, support wellbeing, encourage friendships, and give young people the opportunity to develop skills and aspirations for the future. They play a vital role by providing safe, inclusive spaces where young people can connect, grow, and access support when they need it most.
“I am incredibly grateful to all our youth workers for the unbelievable work they do every day to support our younger generations, and equally excited to see our loved Youth Centres benefitting from this significant investment.”
