CONSTRUCTION of the new retail development at Eston Precinct has now been completed, marking another significant milestone in the transformation of Eston town centre.
Delivered by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, the development provides seven new retail units alongside improved public spaces for residents and visitors. Construction has now been completed by Esh Construction, with formal handover of the development to the council due to take place in mid-November.
The development has created 14,650 square feet of new retail space and is expected to help attract new businesses and increase activity in the town centre.
The council is currently in discussions with a number of prospective tenants, with several negotiations at an advanced stage. While announcements about occupiers are expected in due course, enquiries from businesses interested in taking a unit are still welcome.
The completion of construction marks the end of a major phase of work to reshape the heart of Eston. Alongside the retail units, the scheme has delivered new paving, planting, lighting and improved public spaces, creating a more attractive environment for residents and visitors.
Councillor Lynn Pallister MBE, Cabinet Member for Growth and Enterprise, said: "This is a really exciting milestone for Eston. After a great deal of work from everyone involved, we're now approaching the finish line and can start looking ahead to seeing businesses move into the new units.
"We've had strong interest from prospective tenants and some discussions are now at an advanced stage. While there is still work taking place behind the scenes, it's encouraging to see the level of interest in the opportunities this development will bring to Eston."
Grant Watson, Construction Director at Esh Construction, said: "Marking the completion of construction at Eston Precinct is a milestone moment for myself and the team at Esh and we are incredibly proud. We have worked closely with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council throughout the scheme, and our trusted partnership has resulted in the smooth delivery of the new precinct."
Throughout the project, Esh Construction has delivered a range of social value initiatives in the local community, including STEM activities in local schools, support for community groups, volunteering activity and opportunities for apprentices to gain valuable on-site experience. In addition, the contractor has invested £3,500 in local community improvement projects, including a contribution of £800 towards new outdoor gym equipment at Flatts Lane Country Park.
Businesses interested in taking a unit at Eston Precinct can contact Portland Dodds Brown on 01642 616616 to discuss opportunities and availability.
The development has been funded by the UK Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority.
The council will provide further updates as tenant agreements are finalised and businesses prepare to move into the development.
