Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is moving forward in its commitment to supporting Armed Forces veterans, their families, serving personnel, and cadets.
A motion by the council’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Dave Taylor, at Borough Council – which was supported unanimously by members – called for the creation of an Armed Forces Liaison role within the council.
The role will ensure our veterans and service personnel get the recognition, support and access to services across all departments of the council.
That support has now been created and two Armed Forces Liaison Officers have been appointed.
Facilities Manager Carl Lamb, who served 23 years in the Armed Forces, and Democratic Services Assistant Julie McCulloch, who has previously worked supporting veterans have started their new roles.
Both Carl and Julie have a true passion for their new roles, which they will carry out alongside their jobs with the council.
They will work with Cllr Taylor to build strong relations between the council and our armed forces community. Over the next month or two, there’ll be a lot going on behind the scenes as we bring everything together to better support our Armed Forces community that will lay the foundation to grow from.
Cllr Taylor, said: “It is fantastic to see Carl and Julie appointed to the roles – they both have a true passion for the Armed Forces and they will make a real and lasting difference to our residents who have the same passion.”
Council Leader Cllr Alec Brown added: “We wholeheartedly support the work of Cllr Taylor and our officers who are driving our support of everyone connected with the Armed Forces.
“It is something which is close to my heart with generations of my family serving in the Armed Forces and our commitment to providing support will continue and build into the future.”
