New arrangements for motorhome parking set to be introduced on Saltburn’s Marine Parade

NEW arrangements for motorhomes parking in Saltburn are set to come into force later this year.

The council is proposing the change to better balance the needs of residents in Saltburn and visitors who wish to enjoy the fantastic tourism offer of the town.

The council’s Cabinet has listened to feedback from both householders in Saltburn and motorhome owners who wish to spend time visiting the town.

The new restrictions will provide an area for motorhomes to park but will put a time limit on how long they can stay.

Parking for motorhomes will be restricted to existing marked parking bays on the north side of Marine Parade. The bays will offer parking for four hours on Monday-Saturday between 9am and 5pm, with no return for four hours after the initial parking period.

There will be no parking for motorhomes at any time on the remaining unrestricted sections on the north and south side of Marine Parade.

In a separate measure, ‘no waiting and no loading at any time’ restrictions will be in place outside Saltburn House to the back alley to Coral Street due to the width of the road.

The new measures will limit motorhome parking to the marked bays for the limited period and prevent motorhomes from parking for lengthy periods. They will also allow other vehicles to park in non-marked bays for an unlimited period.

There are no plans to introduce parking charges on Marine Parade.

The proposals are set to come into effect in the autumn but are subject to a Traffic Regulation Order.

Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “Saltburn is much-loved destination, but it’s important that we strike a balance between meeting the needs of tourists who want to spend time by our beautiful coast, and residents who live here. We hope these changes mean everyone gets to enjoy the beauty Saltburn has to offer.”

Cllr Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Highways at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “We’ve worked hard to come up with a solution that reflects the needs of residents and visitors, ensuring Saltburn remains enjoyable for everyone. We want to thank ward councillors Craig Hannaway, Stuart Smith and Philip Thomson for their input throughout this process.”

A statement on behalf of ward members for Saltburn, councillors Craig Hannaway, Stuart Smith and Philip Thomson, said: "We welcome these proposals from the Council. We are pleased that our original proposals have been recognised and incorporated. This is a good first step, subject to successful enforcement and our continuing involvement, with our remaining proposals on the table for future exploration."
