REDCAR and Cleveland Council are holding a series of events and drop-in sessions, to encourage more residents to take up fostering as part of Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from 12 to 25 May.
Local foster carers as well as members of the council’s fostering team will be on hand to share their experiences and encourage people to consider fostering local children.
The theme of this year’s event is The Power of Relationships – because at the heart of every fostering journey are the connections that make all the difference.
Cabinet Member for Children, Cllr Bill Suthers, said:
“The number of children in the care of the local authority has increased dramatically over the last decade which has led to a shortage in foster carers.
“The council is looking for families, couples and individuals from all backgrounds to place local children in high quality local foster placements, where they have a stable home environment and the support to help them grow, develop and realise their potential.
“Anyone wishing to take up fostering will receive comprehensive support from the council.”
The public can speak to the fostering team or a foster carer at one of the following drop-in information events:
- Saturday 10 May: Saltburn Farmers market, Saltburn Square (outside the station portico) 9-2pm
- Wednesday 14 May: Guisborough Forest Walkway 9-2pm
- Sunday 18 May: Tomahawk Steakhouse, Saltburn with Smooth Radio 10.30-2.30pm
- Wednesday 21 May: Guisborough Forest Walkway 9-2pm
- Tuesday 27 May: Locke Park, Redcar, Family Funday 10-2pm.
Fostering team manager for Redcar and Cleveland Council, Kate Bulman, said:
“It is important that we support foster care fortnight and hold local information events because our children need loving and safe homes.
“There is no pressure on anyone to sign up to anything, simply drop by for a chat if you are curious and would like to know more.”
