Tree planting grants for community orchard creation

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has been awarded funding from Defra’s Coronation Living Heritage Fund to create new community orchards across the borough to commemorate the King’s coronation.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has been awarded funding from Defra’s Coronation Living Heritage Fund (CLHF). The funding will help to create new community orchards across the borough to commemorate the King’s coronation.

Community orchards are great places for people to come together for community activities. They can support nature and wildlife and provide opportunities to socialise, be active, and learn new skills such as wildlife watching, horticultural skills and tree care. 

Eligible applicants for this scheme include:

  • Schools
  • residents’ associations
  • community groups
  • charities
  • parish/town councils

This scheme will fund projects between the value of £200.00 and £5000.00 and will pay for items including trees and tree protection, fencing, gates, and commemorative signage.

Applicants must be able to complete tree planting by 31 March 2025.

Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis until the CLHF is exhausted.

Applications must be made using the online application available on this page. Applicants will need to complete and upload the “Plant Materials Specification” as part of their application.
