Watch latest Eston Pool footage as opening date announced

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has showcased the latest video footage of Eston Pool as it prepares for opening day.

The Council announced that construction of the brand-new Eston Pool will be completed by 26 January. At that point, Everyone Active will be on site to carry out staff training and final preparations ahead of the official opening on Saturday 14 February.

This marks a major milestone in delivering a modern and inclusive leisure facility for the wider Eston community and beyond.

The facility boasts:

  • A 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool with dedicated changing areas
  • A learner pool for beginners, families and confidence building
  • A 150-seat spectator gallery and an officials’ room for gala use to support gala events

Accessibility has been at the heart of the project, with features including:

  • Changing Places Facility – Spacious, fully accessible area with height-adjustable changing trolley, hoist system, and raise-and-lower sink
  • Accessible Toilets & Showers – Step-free, stoma-friendly facilities designed for privacy and independence
  • Pre-Swim Accessible Showers – Conveniently located by the pool, including options with built-in seating
  • Sensory Lighting & Moving Shapes – Creating a calming atmosphere for all users
  • Pool Pod & Mobile Hoist – Safe, inclusive pool access for assisted and independent entry
  • Lower-Velocity Dryers – Gentle, quiet drying to reduce sensory overwhelm
  • Accessible Lockers – Easy-to-reach, user-friendly storage solutions

Throughout the build, contractor Willmott Dixon has supported local employment, apprenticeships, and educational initiatives, while collaborating with voluntary organisations to maximise community benefits.

The project has been funded by the Government, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, and the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority, with Everyone Active appointed as the facility operator.

Councillor Ursula Earl, Cabinet Member for Health, Welfare and Housing, at the Council, said:

The new Eston Pool is a truly outstanding facility and we’re excited to welcome Eston Swim Club back home. More importantly, this is a space designed for everyone in our community to enjoy and I’d like to thank council officers, Everyone Active and Wilmott Dixon for their work in delivering a modern, inclusive venue that promotes health, wellbeing, and accessibility for all. It will be a wonderful resource for residents to enjoy for generations to come.”

Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of the Council, said:

“We’re so happy to be delivering this project to the people of Greater Eston, thanks to funding from the Council, Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority. I want to particularly thank Willmott Dixon for not only for delivering the excellent new facility but also for the positive impact they’ve had in our local community throughout the build.  Their work with nearby schools, giving pupils valuable learning experiences and creating opportunities that will stay with them long after the project is complete. We’ve loved having local students be involved in this from start to finish.

“We’re very close to the finish line now, we can’t wait to open its doors.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said:

"It's great to see the new and improved Eston Pool is all but ready to reopen and welcome people back.

"Eston has deserved improved facilities for a long time so we're proud to have backed this project - and I'm looking forward to the official reopening next month."

Paul Ayre, Everyone Active’s Area Contract Manager, said:

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the local community to Eston Pool next month and to show them the state-of-the-art facility on their doorstep. This will be a wonderful pool for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy for many years to come, and we are very proud to be chosen to operate it.”
