£2 million investment set to transform and secure the future of Tuned In!

WORK to redevelop Tuned In! on Redcar seafront into a vibrant hub for creativity and performing arts, is due to start next month, following a successful bid by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council to Government for a £2 million grant to transform the building.

Durham based, Esh Construction, are due to start on site on 13 October, with work due to be completed by spring 2026.

The transformation will help to secure the long-term future of Tuned In! as a dynamic, creative and inclusive space with a strong focus on children and young people as well as offering a wider programme for families, residents and visitors. The work will complement recent developments in the Coatham area, including the boating lake, beach base, crazy golf course and the play park.

The redevelopment will include:

  • an improved main performance space transformed into a flexible community theatre hosting live music, theatre, comedy and community events
  • upgraded café facilities to serve as a daytime social hub and lively space for evening audiences
  • modernised spaces designed to support a programme of events, workshops and activities for children, young people and their families, as well as the wider community.

Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Cllr Alec Brown, said:

“The investment in Tuned In! is about more than bricks and mortar – it’s about creating spaces where young people can thrive and express themselves.

“It was important to secure the long-term future of TunedIn! for our young people, residents and visitors and develop it as a place where the community, creativity and opportunity come together.”

The Council is in the process of appointing a new operator to run Tuned In! The Council will maintain ownership of the building and the contractor will be responsible for delivering an exciting and inclusive programme of events for young people, families, residents and visitors.

Pedestrian access to the boating lake will remain during the work and Majuba road car park will also stay open. The car park directly in front of TunedIn! will be closed as it will be used as a building compound by Esh construction. Visitors are reminded not to park on the grass next to TunedIn!
