A NEW Managing Director has been officially appointed at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
Brian Archer’s appointment was ratified by councillors at the Borough Council Committee yesterday (Thursday 15 May).
Brian, currently Executive Director for Growth, Enterprise and Environment at the authority, will replace John Sampson, who is retiring, in the leadership role in the autumn.
Councillors of all parties ratified the appointment yesterday after he was named as preferred candidate last week.
Brian said: “I feel honoured to accept this role serving the people of Redcar and Cleveland. It is a wonderful area with resilient, hard-working people and I am excited and proud to do my part helping make the big ambitions we all have this wonderful place a reality.
“In my three years as a director, I have been constantly impressed with my colleagues right across our council. The commitment to our residents (including some of the most vulnerable people in our society), businesses and visitors is – truly – remarkable. I am looking forward to taking on my new, key role supporting you all and working with partners to continue developing our vision for a bright future.”
Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of the Council, said: “Brian has a strong vision for our area, understands and loves our communities and has immense experience in business and local government. We were very fortunate to have such a strong candidate and it was no surprise at all that his appointment was approved by all parties.
Brian has had wide experience of senior roles, including as the Corporate Director for Economy at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and as Managing Director of Business Durham.
