Private hire vehicles

A private hire vehicle cannot apply for hire or stand on a rank. Unlike hackney carriages all private hire vehicles must be pre-booked with a private hire operator.

You need a licence to use a vehicle as a private hire vehicle.

Private hire vehicles are licensed to carry out pre-booked work that has been obtained through a private hire operator.
