75% of electrical goods end up in landfill, where lead and other toxins contained in the goods pollute the environment by contaminating soil and water.
Putting batteries and electronics in kerbside bins also caused 6 bin wagon fires in 2 years. To help residents easily dispose of their small electronics, we have installed WEEE (waste, electrical and electronic equipment) banks borough-wide where you can take anything from kettles to Electric Toothbrushes. Please don't put batteries or vape pens in to the WEEE banks these can be taken to Dunsdale HWRC, or check out your local library or supermarket.
Anything larger than a kettle or toaster can be taken to Dunsdale tip.

Cable collection points
During the Great Cable Challenge, 27 cable collection containers have been installed at community locations such as schools, libraries and even churches. The Recycling Team are again challenging everyone in Redcar and Cleveland to tackle the thousands of cables and other electricals sitting idle in our homes, to save the copper from going to waste.
The following collection points are only for cables and will be available until 21 November 2026:
- Libraries: South Bank, Loftus, Laburnam, Dormanstown, Marske
- Best Start Family Hubs: Redcar (Rainbow Lane), Skelton, Grangetown, Dormanstown, Westfield Farm
- Schools: Coatham Church of England Primary School, Saint Joseph's Catholic Primary School, St Bede's Catholic Primary School, St Margaret Clitherows RC Primary School, Wheatlands Primary School, Zetland Primary School, Handale Primary School
- Village Halls: Boosbeck Village Hall, Lazenby Village Hall
- Churches: Saint Leonard’s Parish Church in Loftus, Saint Helen’s Church in Carlin How, Brotton Methodist Church
