International Women's Day

On International Women’s Day, we are celebrating all the amazing women across the world and their tremendous achievements.

The theme for this year aims to encourage all of us, regardless of our gender, to try and make sure that we treat women with fairness and respect regardless of their differences, while also acknowledging and accepting their individual characteristics, backgrounds, strengths and needs.

To mark the theme for this year, #EmbraceEquity, inspiring women within the Council have taken part in three videos, talking about what equity means to them and how we can all embrace it.

You can hear their views and stories below:

Pride month

June was a month of celebration, during which we have shown our support for the LGBTQ+ Community, not only by raising the Rainbow Flag in front of the Civic Centre in Redcar, but also by showcasing two of our amazing employees who spoke about what 'Pride' means for them.

For Lucinda, our HR Transactional Clerk, 'Pride' is being confident in who you are, proud both of yourself and of those around you and celebrate what makes us unique and different from one another.

For Aaron, our Senior Events Officer, 'Pride' is about representation, living your truth and setting up a good example and most of all, 'Pride' for him is about the little gestures that could make someone feel included in a warm and supportive community.

Disability Pride Month

On Disability Pride Month, we celebrated two incredible young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities from Redcar and Cleveland for their fantastic achievements.

Mica is a former gymnastic medallist at the 2019 Special Olympic, winning one silver medal, two bronze ones and three ribbons.

Will got involved in more activities one can count from sailing with Oceans Youth Trust, and getting the Bronze Award in the Duke of Edinburgh project, to performing on stage in front of large audiences by singing at high profile events, award ceremonies and conferences.
