Celebrated on the 12th of August, International Youth Day began in 2000 and was organized by the UN to recognize the input young people make in education, community development, environmental groups and volunteering for different social projects.
International Youth Day gives youngsters a chance to make their voices heard. It aims to take initiatives and actions that will create more opportunities for them.
This year’s theme is Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages. Its main message is that all generations must collaborate and take actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals so that no one is left behind. It also aims to raise awareness on certain barriers to intergenerational solidarity, notably ageism, which impacts young and old people, while having detrimental effects on society as a whole.
Events celebrating International Youth Day 2022 will take place all around the world and you can be part of the celebrations by attending a local event. There may be something happening in your community, school, youth club or workplace.
Or you can organize your own event or activity to celebrate International Youth Day.
