Did you know that the law (Equality Act 2010) says it's illegal for a venue to discriminate against a woman because she's breastfeeding a child? It's also illegal to discriminate against someone because they're with a breastfeeding mother.
But we know that lots of mothers still feel uncomfortable about breastfeeding when they're out and about. The aim of Welcome to Breastfeed - South Tees is to help you feel more comfortable breastfeeding in public in Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland.
Look out for venues with a Welcome to Breastfeed - South Tees sticker in the window. You'll get a warm welcome, and be safe to breastfeed inside. You will not be asked to move, leave, or stop.
Before a venue can sign up, it must prove that it offers a comfortable environment, and staff will not discriminate against breastfeeding mothers. We know that making breastfeeding mothers feel welcome can make a big difference, and is one less thing to worry about when you're out.
