About the role
Working closely alongside the gardens team you’ll be helping in the garden with gardening tasks such as dead heading, weeding, edging, planting as well harvesting produce and flowers as the kitchen garden develops.
What's involved?
You’ll be using manual tools such as spades, hoes, rakes, forks, and wheelbarrows – all of which you’ll be shown how to use in a safe and efficient manner. We’ll show you how to complete a task, so hopefully you’ll be picking up some gardening tips and training as well. All training and tasks will be demonstrated by the Head Gardener. You’ll not be using and powered machinery when volunteering or working in any areas where machinery is being used. You’ll also be engaging with our visitors and telling them about what’s happening in the garden now.
This role would suit you if, you’d like to gain more experience and learn more about working in a professional garden. If you’d like to learn more about the walled garden at Kirkleatham and its history. If you enjoy working outside and carrying out physical tasks. Volunteers must be over the age of 18.
You will be provided with PPE – Safety boots and work gloves.
When would we need you?
Volunteering is on Wednesdays and Thursday – from 10am until 3pm with a half hour lunch break.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like to find out more, please contact the Head Gardener Hazel Robinson hazel.robinson@elior.co.uk or volunteer@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk
