Post-16 Travel

The Post 16 Transport Policy includes information about the wide range of subsidised travel options available within Redcar & Cleveland from transport providers, colleges and national government schemes.

Local councils have a statutory duty to publish an annual Post 16 Transport to Education Policy Statement. The purpose of this document is to inform all students who are aged 16, 17 or 18, and those aged 19 – 24 with a Special Educational Need and/or Disability, of the transport assistance available within the Borough. 

The Post 16 Transport Policy includes information about the wide range of subsidised travel options available within Redcar & Cleveland from transport providers, colleges and national government schemes. 

Information is also available from college websites directly. 

Applying for Post 16 Transport Support from 2025

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council have discretionary powers to provide transport assistance to students with an Education, Health and Care Plan who have no other means of accessing education.   

Applications are considered based on the eligibility criteria for Post 16 transport within the policy statement, from September 2025 onwards the policy and criteria has been updated.

The application form for Post 16 Transport Assistance from September 2025 onwards will be added to this web page from 31st May 2025. 

If you require transport assistance for the remainder of the 2024/25 academic year this will be considered under the Post 16 Transport Policy Statement 24/25 to make an application please contact your school, college or SEN Officer. 

Applying for Post 19 Transport Support 

The Council also offers support for some students who are aged 19 or over with an Education, Health and Care Plan. There is a separate eligibility criteria in place for this group of young people which is set out within the Post 16 Transport Policy Statement.
