Age-friendly Redcar and Cleveland

Find out more about our commitment as an age-friendly organisation and the support available in Redcar and Cleveland to our residents of all ages.

We are an official member of the UK Network of Age-Friendly Communities. This reflects our commitment to the well-being of our residents but also highlights our dedication to ensure all aspects of life are accessible, welcoming and supportive of everyone as we age.

Redcar and Cleveland is home to strong communities, beautiful open spaces and residents who care deeply about where they live. As more of us are living longer lives, it’s vital to ensure our towns and villages support our health, independence and quality of life as we age.

What an Age-Friendly Community is

An Age-friendly Community is a place where people of all ages can live healthy and active later lives. These places make it possible for people to continue to stay living in their homes, participate in the activities that they value and contribute to their communities for as long as possible.

The graphic below shows the support Age-friendly Communities offer to their residents:

the image shows a spider diagram that has in the middle the term "Age-friendly Communities" and connected to it the following aspects of life in separate bubbles: respect and social inclusion; outdoor spaces and buildings; transport; communication and information; social opportunities; health and social care services; employment, training and volunteering.

Age-friendly Redcar and Cleveland is led by Redcar and Cleveland Council/Public Health South Tees in partnership with older people and partner organisations.

The Growing Older Partnership

If you would like to get involved in local initiatives, you can join Redcar and Cleveland’s Growing Older Partnership which is coordinated by one of our age-friendly supporters - Citizens Advice.

This provides:

  • A forum for people 50+ to come together and share their views on health, wellbeing,  social care, community facilities, services and any other issues impacting on their quality of life;
  • A platform to influence development of local policy, services and community improvements;
  • A supportive information network to keep older people connected to helpful information and services;
  • Opportunities to socialise/contribute to the project through volunteering.

Membership is free and all members receive a regular newsletter  with information on local services, support, consultations, campaigns, local events and gatherings.

There is no set time commitment to this. People can choose their level of involvement from simply keeping up to date with helpful information via the GO newsletter, to attending meetings, contributing to focus groups, sharing views on policies or contributing time to support the project.

To join the partnership/sign up to the newsletter, please email go@citizensadvicedrc.org.uk or call 07934995580.
