Start for Life

The Start for Life programme aims to support families to give their children the best possible start in life.

Leading child health experts agree the care given during the first 1,001 critical days (during pregnancy and up to 2 years) has more influence on a child’s future than at any other time in their life.

Experiences during this time have a big effect on the health, wellbeing and opportunities for children throughout their lives.

All families need some help to give their babies the best start in life, whether it is from healthcare professionals or volunteers, family or friends, there is a wide range of support and services available.

We hope that by bringing together information about Start for Life services in one place, we can help you and your growing family access the support you need to help you give your children the best possible start in life.

You can download our Start for Life information booklet below. Please note that links within the booklet are ‘live’ and will take you to those websites when viewed online.

Online resources for Families about The Brain Story

The University of Oxford, in partnership with the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative, is working to share knowledge about the science of brain development for families and professionals. This is important information for everybody to understand how our earliest experiences can affect our long-term mental and physical health.  Find out more by clicking the link below.

Please be aware that the Start For Life offer is updated on a regular basis.
