Donate your electricals

If you have unwanted electricals that are still in working condition, you can donate them as part of our recycle and reuse scheme.

You can bring working, small, domestic electrical items you no longer need to Dunsdale Waste and Recycling Centre or Redcar Library where they will be collected, PAT tested and redistributed to people in need across Redcar and Cleveland by local community groups supporting the scheme.

Electrical items that will be accepted include:

  • toasters
  • kettles
  • blenders or food processors
  • slow cookers
  • steamers
  • sandwich toasters or small grills
  • hairdryers
  • microwaves
  • air fryers
  • alarm clocks
  • straighteners
  • coffee machines
  • irons
  • lamps

Non-reusable devices such as e-cigarettes and larger electricals will not be accepted as part of this scheme even if they are still in working order.

We teaming up with local community groups Footprints in the Community and Loftus CIC who will collect the items. Staff and volunteers at these community groups have been trained and provided with the equipment to PAT test the items. Any small, domestic electricals that have passed their PAT test will be distributed to new homes through their foodbanks and other programmes.

Current collection points:

  • Dunsdale Waste and Recycling Centre
  • Redcar Library

Funding for the scheme is being provided by Material Focus, an independent, non-profit organisation aiming to ensure the reuse and recycling of electricals.

Non-working or non-reusable electrical items should be disposed off at one of our WEEE banks in order for them to be properly recycled. You can find the location of your nearest WEEE bank at Waste, electrical and electronic equipment disposal banks | Redcar and Cleveland (redcar-cleveland.gov.uk)
