Redcar Central Station

Redcar Central Station is a Grade-II listed Victorian station and train shed in the heart of Redcar. Find out how we want to bring it back into use.

Redcar Central Station is a Grade-II listed Victorian station and train shed built around 1860 for the extension coastwards of the Stockton-Darlington railway.

It was last used as a business centre which closed in 2013 and has not seen railway use since the late 1980s.

We are acquiring the building on a long lease from The Arch Company, a new organisation that purchased the majority of Network Rail's commercial properties in 2017.

With funds administered through TVCA and the Railway Heritage Fund, the station building and former train shed will be sympathetically restored to its former glory.

We are exploring a number of potential uses for the revamped station but you can expect a mix of daytime and evening activities such as:

  • Bar.
  • Restaurant.
  • Shops.
  • Cafe.
  • Flexible spaces.
  • Markets.
  • Events.
  • Community activities.
  • Automatic rail ticket machines.
  • Visitor information.

Estimated completion: early 2025
