Our commitment to the armed forces community

Information about our commitment to the armed forces community that call Redcar and Cleveland home can be found here.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council underlined the Borough’s support for the Armed Forces by adopting the Armed Forces Community Covenant in 2012.

In April 2021 the Council re-affirmed its commitment to the Armed Forces by re-signing the Covenant

This complements the National Armed Forces Covenant - a promise from our nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly.

The aim of the Community Covenant is to strengthen the relationship between local communities and the military.

It also offers formal recognition of the sacrifices made by service personnel on active duty. It provides a platform for the Armed Forces community to help and support the wider community through participation in events and joint projects.

We aim to fulfil our obligations under the Covenant by:

  • working with partners to make sure that the needs of our local Armed Forces community are being identified and met
  • making sure that military service doesn't result in members of the Armed Forces community being disadvantaged compared to other citizens
  • making sure that the contribution of the Armed Forces to our community is remembered, honoured and celebrated
  • We actively support local Armed Forces events including homecoming and freedom parades

Our Armed Forces Champion is responsible for maintaining Redcar and Cleveland Council's commitment to support the Armed Forces, their families, and veterans. They also raise the profile of the support provided by the council and the community.

A veteran is anyone who has served for at least one day in the Armed Forces, whether regular or reserve.
