The Families' Information Service provides free, impartial  information, advice and guidance for parents, carers, practitioners, young people  and children on a wide range of services and activities/events available for children and young people aged 0-20 years old (0-25 for those with additional needs)

Free childcare search

We offer independent information and advice about childcare provision throughout Redcar and Cleveland, including registered day nurseries, childminders, playgroups, crèches, out of school clubs, and unregistered breakfast clubs, parent and toddler groups, holiday play schemes and holiday activities.

Funded Childcare

Contact FIS for information and advice about the early years childcare funding available for children aged from 9 months to 4 years.   We can also offer advice on how to get help with childcare costs.

School’s Choice Advice

The School Choice Advice Service is an independent and impartial service available to support parents and carers who are applying for a school place for their child. 

The School Choice Adviser is here to listen to parents and carers questions and concerns about applying for a school place and to provide further information as follows: -

  • Admission Policies
  • School Ofsted reports
  • Oversubscription criteria
  • Term Dates
  • School specialisms
  • School admission appeals

Individual help is available to assist parents/carers with the completion of the school place application form

Also, if a parent is unable to secure a place for their child at their most preferred school, the School Choice Adviser is able to provide support and guidance to help them through the admission appeal process.
