Applying for a Secondary School Place
Applications to apply for a place in year 7 at secondary school can be made online. Paper application forms will be available for parents/guardians who do not have access to the online system. To apply online, you need access to a computer and an e mail address.
Applications should be made by all parents/guardians resident within Redcar & Cleveland who wish to express a preference for their child to be admitted to Year 7 of a secondary school, whether within, or outside, the Redcar & Cleveland area. This is for all schools including foundation schools and academies.
Parents of children resident outside Redcar & Cleveland who wish to express a preference for a school maintained by Redcar & Cleveland should apply to their home local authority. Details of the application will then be passed by that local authority to Redcar and Cleveland.
When making the application parents will:
- be invited to express up to three preferences for schools/ academies in rank order
- be invited to give reasons for their preference
- be encouraged to provide supplementary information in support of their preferences
- be advised of the closing date for receipt of applications, and to whom they must be returned
The LA will make arrangements, to ensure that application details are sent to all parents/guardians whose children are resident within Redcar & Cleveland and are eligible for admission to Year 7 in the 2021/22 school year.
The online application form can be accessed through the Redcar & Cleveland Council website at www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk. then click on the link to secondary school admissions. The timescale for completion of the online application or paper form will be the same.
Where parents express a preference for Sacred Heart RC Voluntary Academy or St Peter's RC Voluntary Academy) a supplementary form has to be completed in order to provide further information to enable the Academy Trust, as admissions authority, to apply their own admissions criteria if necessary. If a supplementary form is not included in your application pack you can either download the form from the Redcar and Cleveland website or contact the school admissions team on 01642 837740 or 837730 to request the form. This form should be returned to the school for which you are applying and not the Local Authority.
Paper application forms ( not including the supplementary form, please see 3.7 above) should be returned to the Local Authority and not the pupil's current primary school or secondary school for which you are applying.
