We are an Investors In People (IIP) recognised organisation and have been since 2005. In 2012 we went beyond the standard and achieved Gold. This is a massive achievement for the Council as we are the first and only Council in the North East of England to achieve this level of recognition. Furthermore, only 3% of IIP recognised organisations go beyond the standard.
We want staff to be fully equipped to meet the challenges of their role, and we see training our staff as an investment. The appraisal process is key to supporting staff and the personal development plan (PDP) should reflect the development needed to enable the member of staff to meet their agreed objectives and improve their ability to meet the requirements of their current role.
All development activities discussed during the appraisal meeting should be recorded in the PDP; and should include formal and informal training. Managers and staff are encouraged to consider the whole range of developmental activities available and are encouraged to be imaginative and innovative in using a wide variety of training opportunities to meet development needs.
