Council Tax Appeals
How to appeal a Council Tax banding decision
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) assesses each dwelling to determine the band of the property. All properties are banded on the same basis including properties bought under discount schemes such as Right To Buy. The purchase price discounts applied to these properties aren't taken into account when the band is set.
Residents who choose to appeal their Council Tax banding must do so through the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). You can find further information about appealing your Council Tax band by visiting the VOA website or by calling the VOA on 03000 501501
Appealing a Council Tax reduction decision:
If you want to appeal against the Council's decision concerning a discount, you can contact us by telephone on 01642 774774 or by email explaining what you object to and why.
If your bill indicates that a discount has been allowed, you must inform the Council Tax Section of any change of circumstances that affects your entitlement. If you fail to do so, you may have to pay a penalty.
