The Countryside Service manages three Country Parks as well as many smaller areas of woodland within the Borough.

Volunteers give valuable assistance in all aspects of the management of these sites and woodlands.

If you have time on your hands, would like to meet new people and contribute to the care of the countryside where you live then why not become a Volunteer.

You can give as much or as little time as you are able.

Volunteers are based at each of the 3 County Parks but you can take part in tasks and events at any of the sites. Typical Volunteer activities include:
  • Practical conservation work - assisting with habitat management to benefit wildlife.
  • Countryside Events - Assisting with the running of the Events programme that includes guided walks, family activities and wildlife watching.
  • Environmental Education - Assistance with delivering the education programme to schools that use the site and also working with the Nature Club at Flatts Lane and Young Rangers at Guisborough Forest.
  • Visitor Centre Assistance - An extra pair of hands are very useful in the centres on Sunday and during school visits and events. Duties include giving out information and looking after the gift shop.
  • Site patrols - An extra pair of eyes and ears out on site, litter picking and reporting problems back to base.
Prospective Volunteers are requested to complete an application form and are invited to the nearest County Park to their home for an informal chat about their application. All applicants will be assessed for suitability.
