Public Inspection Notices
Under the Local Accountability & Audit Act 2014 and the Accounts & Audit Regulations 2015, the Council has to advertise that its Statement of Accounts for a specific financial year has been prepared. Members of the public, for 30 working days after the commencement of the period, have the right to inspect the accounts, examine any relevant accounting documents and raise any questions or objections with the external auditor on any salient issues. The period of inspection and the contact details for subsequent queries for the appropriate financial year are set out below:
Summary Statement of Accounts
This is a briefer, less complicated version of the Statement of Accounts summarising some of the key points arising from the Council's stewardship of public funds during the year.
Annual Governance Statement
The Annual Governance Statement presents a statement of those matters of significance affecting the management of the Council's affairs. The Annual Governance Statement prior to 2011/12 was embedded within the Annual Statement of Accounts, now it is produced as a standalone document, but still approved in conjunction with the Annual Statement of Accounts.
The Annual Governance Statement deals with three topics:
- the systems that the Council has in place which provide the Council's governance arrangements
- a review of the risks that were identified in last year's Annual Governance Statement and how the Council has addressed those risks
- the identification of the major risks facing the Council moving forward
Annual Audit Letter
An annual letter produced for Members summarising the conclusions reached by the Audit Commission in reviews undertaken during the year, of which their audit of the Annual Statement of Accounts form part.
