Redcar & Cleveland Planning Strategy (Local Plan)
The Planning Strategy Team is responsible for all matters relating to planning policy in Redcar and Cleveland (excluding the part within the North York Moors National Park). We prepare the statutory development plan that sets out the long term land allocations and other planning policies that will guide development proposals in the borough and against which planning applications are determined.
New Local Plan
The publication of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) has led to a change to the local planning system, with the Council now required to prepare a new single local plan. The Council has been preparing the new Local Plan during the past two years to replace the existing development plan documents (see below).
The Local Plan sets out the broad spatial planning and policy framework for Redcar & Cleveland Borough (apart from the area within the North York Moors National Park, which is covered by the National Park Authority) up to 2032. The Local Plan sets out a vision for how the Borough should be in 2032 and sets out a strategy for growth, identifying appropriate areas and sites for development, as well as the necessary infrastructure to support this growth. The Local Plan will also be used to make decisions on future planning applications.
The Council consulted on the Local Plan Scoping Report in July 2015 and the Draft Local Plan in May 2016. The Council has now prepared the Publication version of the Local Plan for submission to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. The Publication Local Plan is available to view on the consultation portal below.
