What have we been doing?
A 2 year programme boosting visitor facilities and encouraging fresh investment in the tourism economy was undertaken.
The scheme formed part of the authority's ambitious Regeneration Masterplan, which is aiming to dramatically boost the tourism economy by 2025.
Almost £700,000 was invested in a range of investments focussing on Redcar, Saltburn and Guisborough and other destinations within the Borough including:
- Refurbishment of toilets in Saltburn, Redcar and Guisborough and along the Stray;
- Traditional games and activities provided for visitors to Saltburn and Coatham esplanades;
- Improved street furniture from signage and information boards to benches and bins;
- A business support scheme aimed at helping traditional tourist hotspot traders such as ice cream and drinks carts, deckchair and beach games providers to flourish.
Tourism is a massive part of our local economy and it is vital that we do all we can to continue to encourage visitors to check out this fabulous part of the country.
The Council is now investigating a range of other projects that will further improve the tourism economy and the appearance and facilities within our destinations and these will be rolled out over the coming years as part of the delivery of the Masterplan.
