Why we have done this
Work was completed on a £2.2m project of major improvements to one of Teessides busiest roads in 2012.
The revamp of the A66 junctions at Normanby Road, and Eston Road and Church Lane are a central part of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Councils blueprint for the economic regeneration of the area and will act as a catalyst for private sector investment within the borough and create new businesses, providing opportunities for new jobs in the area.
This is what you will see
The roundabouts at these junctions have been removed and replaced by four way cross road signalised junctions, with carriageways resurfaced, central carriageway barrier enhancements and improved street lighting.
The scheme was carried out by Ringway Infrastructure Services on behalf of the Council.
South Tees is at the heart of plans to attract £4.5bn worth of investment to Redcar & Cleveland over the next 15 years, creating thousands of new jobs.
The old A66 road layout was sufficient when it was first built, but the modern day traffic volumes using it mean that improvements had to be made.
Now the project has been completed, we will see a stretch of road that will reduce congestion at peak times, as well as being safer for cyclists, pedestrians and the local community.
It is envisaged these changes will stimulate major private and foreign direct investment in the borough.
