Coronavirus Update

Taxis and private hire vehicles can still work.  However, members of the public should avoid travelling unless it is essential.  The government website has a list of acceptable reasons to leave the house here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus


If it is absolutely necessary to travel by taxi or private hire vehicle, the guidance should be followed as much as possible, including washing your hands as soon as you get home.


Taxi and private hire drivers should not generally be considered Critical Workers. Those undertaking Home to School transport or the transport of 'extremely vulnerable' people may be considered Critical Workers on a case-by-case basis.


Critical Workers should also whenever possible make suitable arrangements for their children to stay at home; requests for children to attend school should be discussed with the school.

 

Taxi licensing process changes

We've made some temporary changes to our taxi licensing process as a result of the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.


The Council office in Redcar is now closed.


All licences should be renewed by emailing the temporary application form below, with details of your payment, to licensingadmin@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk.

You do not need to include any other paperwork with your application.


We will contact you at a later date to request anything that has been temporarily waived due the current circumstances (e.g. vehicle tests, DBS and medicals).


Upon receipt of your application, we will email you a letter that acknowledges that you have applied to renew your licence and you can continue to work in meantime.


This letter must be printed and kept with you while working in case you are stopped by a police or licensing officer.  Alternatively, you can display an electronic version of the letter via your mobile device.

How to make a payment

You can currently make payments as usual at Seafield House (although this is subject to change).


You can also make payments online or by telephone on 01642 774774.  Please quote your licence number when making payments.
