The Licensing Service administers and enforces a variety of licenses required by national law. This involves around 3,000 applications for licenses, permits and registrations each year covering a diverse range of differing types of licence applications ranging from Acupuncture to Zoos.
A pavement licence allow licence holders to place removable furniture over certain highways adjacent to the premises in relation to which the application was made. A new streamlined process will soon be introduced to allow businesses to secure these licences in time for the summer. These licences will usually remain in place for a year but not beyond 30 September 2021.
Alternatively, a Pavement Cafe licence issued under the Highways Act 1980 can be applied for if you wish to continue to place removeable furniture on the highway beyond 30 September 2020.
