Important notice: The representatives for Redcar and Cleveland were appointed, not elected. This was because there had been no local interest in the Youth Parliament for around a decade. Due to this, we have decided to take the shortest term possible, which is one year. This means in February 2012, there will be a democratic election for the Redcar and Cleveland representatives of the UKYP.

What is the United Kingdom Youth Parliament?
The United Kingdom Youth Parliament or UKYP for short is about helping young people to use their energy and passion to help change their local area and even the world!
How does the UKYP work?
The UKYP has 600 Members of Youth Parliament across the United Kingdom, aged 11-18.
Members of Youth Parliament or MYPs are elected in annual elections across the UK. Anyone aged between 11-18 can stand or even vote for their area!
How do we do it?
MYPs organize events and projects, while influencing decision makers on matters that are important to you, to young people.
Although the UKYP is an organization, most areas are directly under and supported by their council, as is the case in Redcar and Cleveland.
Together we promise to work with the young people across Redcar and Cleveland, consulting their views and opinions and getting your local area changed for the better! And ensuring February 2012 elections!
