Duke of Edinburgh Awards 2010

A total of 263 young people received their awards at the Coatham Bowl Redcar on Friday the 9th July 156 Bronze 90 Silver and 17 Gold.
10 Gold are from Eston Youth Centre which is a remarkable feat, another 2 are from Kirkleatham S.E.N. School, 4 from Prior Pursglove College and 1 Freebrough Specialist Engineering College.
We have one very remarkable young lady who has cerebral palsy (Quadriplegic) and is in a specialised wheelchair who has gained her Bronze.
The evening was hosted by David Elliott, chairman of the Redcar & Cleveland Duke of Edinburgh's award Committee.
The Gold participants have done an array of different sections to gain their award eg worked with the uniformed Youth Services, Charity shop work Lifeboats for the volunteering section, playing music, singing (one young lady got through to the boot camp on the x factor who has gained her Gold award) for the skill section and Basket Ball, Rugby Keep fit for the physical section.
Also 3 Gold students went to Holyrood palace in Edinburgh to collect their Gold Certificates from Colin Briggs the news reader for BBC Look North and meet the Duke of Edinburgh himself.
