Welcome
It is well recognised by all that the travel habit of children to and from school has changed considerably in the last 20 – 30 years. Currently 1 in 10 cars on the urban road between 8 and 9 in term time is on the school run.
Most of us are aware of the negative effects that the school run can have, not only on the environment and the safety of children in the surrounding areas, but their health and well being too.
Many schools have already taken steps to address these issues by producing a School Travel Plan, setting out their approach and actions. Changing habits isn’t easy, but the good news is that you are not alone in your desire for change.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is committed to working with schools to produce plans, offering staff support, resources and funding opportunities. So whether you are a teacher, Governor or parent, interested in the travel planning process, we hope you find the following step by step guide useful and informative.
