Safeguarding children in voluntary and community groups

Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility. If you need information on how to ensure your safeguarding policy is up to date, or just want advice for a new group you are setting up please see our guide below and also check visit the Safe Network Standards page for further information.

This site offers invaluable advice for all voluntary and community groups, whether you're providing art activity for toddlers ,an after school reading club for teens or running a sports team. There are also leaflets and toolkits to help you ensure you are doing the best that you can to keep the children and young people you work with safe. You will find answers to a wide range of questions such as :
  • How do I spot an abuser?
  • Can we just use someone else's policies?
  • Do I have to protect children by law?
If you are worried about a child's safety you must tell someone about it.
