Emergency Planning in Redcar & Cleveland

In Redcar & Cleveland, Emergency Planning is a shared responsibility throughout the Council and its partners. It is part of everyone's duty to develop and be aware of the emergency plans and procedures.

As a Council we would support the Emergency Services during the life saving phase of an emergency and then take the lead during the return to normality.

Support Services to the emergency services and the wider community provided by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council will depend on the specific situation but may include;
  • Social Care
  • Welfare
  • Emergency Feeding
  • Transportation of people and equipment
  • Temporary Accommodation
  • Emergency works and repairs
  • Information and advice

The Borough Council contributes towards the Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit who provide an emergency planning service to the four Borough Councils of Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar & Cleveland to ensure preparedness in the event of an incident. Through this arrangement a dedicated Emergency Planning Officer works with the borough to ensure that the response is coordinated across all departments and with outside organisations. An Emergency Planning Officer is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit works in partnership with the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, other agencies and voluntary organisations to promote resilience and an integrated team effort.
