Concessionary Bus Pass Schemes

Apply for a Bus Pass

An enhanced concessionary bus travel deal will continue in the Tees Valley after the areas four local councils and local bus operators reached agreement on improvements to the Government's national scheme.

An agreement between Redcar & Cleveland, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Stockton Councils and local bus operators means concessionary travel card holders can still travel free at any time after 9.30am on weekdays and all day at weekends.

From 1 April 2011, travel card holders wishing to travel in the Tees Valley area before 9.30 am on weekdays will be charged a flat fare of 30 pence per journey, with travel free at other times.

Reduced Government grants mean finances are tough for all councils, so we are pleased to have been able to retain early morning travel and keep the cost as low as possible.

National Bus Pass

The national bus pass provides free 'off-peak' travel on all local commercial bus services anywhere in England. Off-peak means:

  • Weekdays - travel between 09:30 and 23:00
  • Weekends - all day travel
  • Bank holidays - all day travel
You can register for your new bus pass at: You will need to prove that you are of pensionable age (birth certificate or driving licence) and that you are resident in Redcar and Cleveland (eg utility bill or council tax bill). A digital photograph will be taken as part of the registration.
