A very wide range of stock is provided in varying formats: books, periodicals, newspapers, maps, CD-ROMs, photographs, microfilm and microfiche. Covering an extensive range of information, these and our Internet access enable us to answer almost any enquiry.

Reference stock is not available for loan and must not be removed from the library.

The stock includes:
  • General adult non-fiction on nearly all subjects
  • Directories & Business Information
  • Council Minutes & Local Government Information
  • Ordnance Survey maps
  • Acts of Parliament & Statutory Instruments
  • Details of local clubs & societies
  • Health Information
  • A dedicated European Information section.
  • A Local Studies collection containing a wealth of information about the local area (Redcar & Cleveland, Teesside & the North Riding of Yorkshire).
  • Resources for the family historian, mainly relating to the local area. Film and fiche readers should be booked in advance.
All printouts must be paid for (see library fines and charges,)

A junior reference section may be found on the ground floor, in the junior library.

Local history collection - Directories at Redcar Reference Library.

Historical Photo Archive - The reference library houses a large collection of local historical photos. Some images can be viewed online.

The Register Office & Historical records - Redcar & Cleveland Registration Service hold birth, death and marriage records for the area from 1837.


Branch Library Reference Sections

Every branch library in Redcar & Cleveland has a reference section, the size and content depending upon the space available. Adult & Junior stock is available. Internet access in all libraries ensures a wealth of up-to-date information in all local communities.
