Biodiversity - Country parks

Pond - Flatts Lane The three Country Parks in Redcar and Cleveland (see links below) combine nature conservation with public amenity and education. All are situated on the urban fringe and have significant areas of woodland that are populated by large numbers of birds, in particular, and mammals. They are an ideal place to begin exploring the Borough's wildlife, not least because each has a visitor centre with staff who run regular walks and activities and are happy to provide advice and information on the Parks' biodiversity.

As well as woods, the Country Parks have wetlands, meadows and streams within their bounds, all supporting their characteristic suite of plants and animals. Such sites are important in themselves as wildlife "reserves", but they also act as links to the wider countryside for people and wild animals. Because they are managed with biodiversity and amenity in mind, and have a network of footpaths throughout, the Country Parks bring wildlife right up to our doorstep and are a real asset within the Borough.

Each Country Park has its own group of volunteers, who undertake regular conservation tasks and are responsible for much of the practical management on-site. New members are always welcome. To see all of our volunteer opportunities please click on the volunteering link below.
