Website Feeds

Feeds allow you to stay up-to-date with the latest information. The Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council website has a number of feeds, listed below:

RSS Icon Committee Diary (iCal)
RSS Icon Job Vacancies (RSS)
RSS Icon Press Releases (RSS)
RSS Icon What's New (RSS)
RSS Icon RCBC Alerts

What is iCal?
iCal is live information that can be fed into calendar programmes. If your calendar accepts iCal then it may be possible to stay up-to-date with changes as they happen.

Note: Some calendars will only import iCal, which means new updates will not appear unless you re-import it.

What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way to stay up-to-date with information that you are most interested in. Website information can usually be placed into two broad categories:

  1. Content that remains static over a long period of time.
  2. Active content that changes regularly.
Frequently changing information is difficult to monitor. RSS solved the problem by providing a method, of tracking specific areas of interest.

How does RSS work?
Technically it works by supplying an XML page containing a series of titles, links to the articles represented by the tiles, and a description of the content.

XML is a method for encoding data, which allows it to be read by a wide variety of software.

How do I use RSS?
To use RSS you need something which can read it. Unfortunately not all web browsers support it yet. If you want to use it directly in your browser then Firefox or Opera are options. Microsoft has integrated support in their new browser, 'Internet Explorer 8' . If you are using OSX on the Mac, Safari already supports this.

My Yahoo! and Google Personal , allow you to integrate information from our website in your Yahoo or Google homepages. Both these methods require an account with the respective company (see their sites for more information).
Other websites providing this service include: NewsGator and BlogLines .

A third option is to use a special News Reader program. We have collated a list of readers as a helpful resource. NB: The links are examples to help users and are not intended as a recommendation or endorsement:
