Private Sector Housing Renewal Strategy 2006

The purpose of the Private Sector Housing Renewal Strategy 2006 is to provide a framework to facilitate the delivery of the Councils Housing priorities directly associated with private sector housing, namely:
  • To address market failure and create sustainable inclusive and cohesive communities where people choose to live.
  • To improve and maintain the condition and management of existing neighbourhoods, and provide housing that is healthy, energy efficient and safe.
  • To facilitate the development or adaptation of housing to meet the specialised needs of specific sections of the community to promote social inclusion.
  • To facilitate the development of new housing in sufficient numbers to meet the present and future needs of the Borough, and to take account of aspirations for better housing and a balanced housing stock.
The overall aims of the Strategy are to improve the condition of private sector homes, to provide access to decent homes and extend the choice of housing for specific client groups. These support the overall strategic priorities of the Fit for Purpose Housing Strategy and therefore contribute to the Councils broader regeneration priorities.

The Strategy will not operate in isolation. As such, it should be read in conjunction with the existing Housing Renewal Policy 2004, the Councils overall Fit for Purpose Housing Strategy and the priorities detailed in the Community Strategy and Corporate Plan.
