The process

Change a childs life and foster

Many potential adopters believe that there is a long time delay before they are able to adopt a child. However, in the last year the Government has introduced a new two stage adoption process to ensure that there is no unnecessary delay for children waiting to be adopted.

Stage One - The First Step
  • Stage one begins when you have sent us your Registration of Interest form, this form gives us more information about you and your family.
  • Once you have sent us your Registration of Interest form we will decide within 5 working days whether or not to accept your form. (unless there is an exceptional reason for not being able to do this)
  • Once we have accepted your form we will begin to undertake some statutory checks, which will include police checks, medical checks and references from people who know you well.
  • You will be asked to attend our preparation to Adopt Course which will assist you in the process of becoming an adoptive parent.

    Stage Two - Assessment
  • Stage two will begin when you confirm that you wish to proceed with adoption
  • Once we have received your written confirmation an adoption social worker will be allocated to you and she will complete your prospective Adopters Report (PAR). This social worker will need to make visits to see you to assess your suitability to adopt, you will also be asked to complete home work tasks.
  • Once your Prospective Adopters Report is completed it will be presented to a panel, which is comprised of a diverse group of people. This panel will make a recommendation as to your suitability to be an adopter to the Agency Decision Maker, who makes the final decision as to whether or not to approve you as an adoptive parent.
We aim to have the adoption process completed in the recommended 6 months time scale. But this can be extended if the potential adopter needs more time.

We run regular adoption training and will be able to notify you of our upcoming groups once you proceed to Stage 1. So if you are interested in adoption and want to make an application to adopt, then please dont hesitate to get in touch with one of our team on 01642 771500.
