6. Ward interests

6.1 Councillors have a special duty to their ward constituents but an overriding duty to the wider community. For this reason they should not favour any individuals or groups and they should represent their constituents as a body. Where a ward member has publicly supported a particular outcome, that member should make an open declaration to the planning committee and withdraw whilst the application is determined.
